Bidder Beware
A downloadable game
Hide toxic waste under Oxford Street or a wine cellar in Old Kent Road.
Outbid your competitors and get a bargain at auction.
The most popular board game in history, is based on the ruthless pursuit of wealth through the buying and renting of homes. Editions of this roll and move game are in (too) many homes and they mainly suck. This little card game uses the property cards and cash from any edition of the game to play a hidden information, bluffing and auction game.
Players take turns placing new hidden modifiers (positive and negative) under properties that change the value of the property. Players then bid on the properties at auction. The aim of the game is to get positive modifiers under the properties you buy and negative modifiers under the properties other players buy.
Everyone is aiming to get properties for a bargain and make a profit. Each player knows how they have modified a property’s value but to make a big profit you also need to read your fellow players actions. Do they really want this property or are they just in the auction to drive up the price?
To play this game you need to simply print out the 5 pages and cut up the 47 modifiers, add in the property cards and cash from any -opoly game and you are ready to start playing.
(If you are known as a board game fan in your family and you fear being gifted another copy of the property trading game and then being expected to play it. This gives you another option, smile, crack open the box grab the property cards and play this 15min game instead.)
All images and graphics are from the public domain.
I have listed this as still a WIP. I have tested it with a few different groups, but would love to hear feedback from people about how it could be made better.
