Pick a page is a micro-rpg system designed for the 36-word RPG Jam

The system is based on the idea of blackout poetry, where you create something new (usually a poem) by removing words from an existing page of text. Often by drawing over words with black pens.

The game system is very story orientated where a GM lays out a plot and creates challenges. The other players (from 1-6) then select a word from their page they feel they can justify as a resolution to the challenge they are facing. But the longer and more complicated the word, the more words you must sacrifice to use it. When all the words are used up, being highlighted or censored, the game is over for good or ill.

The books you use and pages you select will make every playthough unique. I love books and don't recommend you destroy you favourite books to play this game, but instead visit a local charity shop and buy some of the books they are struggling to sell. Alternatively you can visit Project Gutenberg and print a page from a public domain book instead.

It is highly recommended to check out TTRPG Safety Tools before playing.

I can't wait to experiment with this game. I referenced your game in my Substack post about this game jam and wrote the following,

"

I am an avid fan of detective and speculative fiction. I adore The X-Files and I love me some redaction aesthetic. Pick a Page combines both and gives an experience that can be done with any page snippet. While described as a game involving a GM, I see this as capable of being a true impromptu adventure to take on the go. I could see myself playing on a lunch break with any old piece of text. I love that about it.

Thank you for making this!

Thank you for the lovely feedback and including "pick a page" in your blog post. When testing the game I played it a few times solo. It definitely can work as a solo experience. I hope you have fun with it.

How can I contact you by email?
